Spanish Language AP is equivalent to third-year college course. The objective of this course is to continue developing proficiency in the speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills using all modes of communication, interactive, receptive, and productive modes; including as well the five goal areas found in the Standards for Foreign Languages in the 21st Century, culture, communication, connections, comparisons, and communities.
Speaking
Students will describe, narrate, present information using authentic sources on general topics. Students will identify and summarize main point/s; talk about significant details, background information, synthesize, make inferences and predictions.
Students will prepare informal speeches on simulated conversations; as well as formal oral presentations with integrated skills.
The sources that students can use are newspapers, magazines, text, Internet, recordings, films, broadcast, etc.
Writing
Students will design own portfolio by creating weekly journals from different sources to present a synthesis and express opinion.
Students will write formal and informal essays about different issues with control of grammar and syntax.
Students will compose analytical, and/or persuasive essays reacting to any given text.
Students will complete paragraph with root words, without root words, and many other grammar exercises.
Listening
Students will listen to many different authentic sources in order to practice variations in accents; as well as short and long dialogues, and narratives.
Reading
Students will read a large variety of authentic materials from different sources.
Students will read the book El Alquimista. It is recommended the each student purchase a copy; however school will have a copy for each students providing that the book is returned in the same condition as given; no marks, writings, and /or scratches.

Class participation 15%

Criteria: On time to class
On task (following instructions and not doing other work)
Prepared for class (books, paper, pencil, pen, and any pertinent
material or assigned work)
Positive peer interaction. Volunteering
Positive contribution to class.
Tests and quizzes:
All tests will be announced in advance of the test date. Quizzes will be unannounced.
Students must study vocabulary on a daily basis.
Homework:
Homework will consist of reading or writing. Vocabulary review is necessary on a daily basis.
Make up work:
See student handbook for SHS policy.
Late work:
Full credit will only be given for work turned in on time. Homework not done receives a grade of zero. Large projects will receive 50% of grade if turned in one day late.
Tardy:
If you are not in your assigned desk when the tardy bell rings, you will sign the tardy log.
Extra credit:
NO extra credit will be given for any reason. Students will be given the opportunity to earn bonus points on tests and quizzes at the discretion of the teacher.
Leaving class:
In compliance with SHS hall management security procedure, there will be no passes issued for students to go to the Media Center

You will need to make an appointment to set it up.
