Here are the summer reading lists by course. Below you will find the lists, assignments, and a list of summaries to help you decide which books you want to read. Remember, do not wait until the last minutes to read. If you do not have English in the fall, see me about taking the test early.

Here is my personal tentative summer reading list of books I'm reading/rereading: 

What I'm currently reading - Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoevsky (thanks to Shannon and Gray) - just started it! It's really interesting, but it's gonna take a while...

What I've read so far:

A New Earth - Eckhart Tolle

Tao of Pooh - Benjamin Hoff (this was interesting reading right after A New Earth - a contrast of simplified concepts from Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Christianity)

Hole in My Life - Jack Gantos (AP Language - I really recommend this book as an easy read)

Into the Wild - John Krakauer

3. Read Stephen Crane's bio and poems
4. Listen to spirituals and discuss meaning behind code songs
5. Read Douglass' bio and excerpt from My Bondage, My Freedom - Download Douglass - My Bondage, My Freedom excerpt
6. Find at least 5 thematic statements in the excerpt that you feel sum up Douglass' main points about slavery and education

HW: Finish reading My Bondage, My Freedom and find 5 statements. Also, read the first chapter of The Great Gatsby and find questions you have to discuss in class Monday.
