Countdown to Spring Break

During our crazy schedule this week, due to Ga. High School Graduation Tests, we will finish and review Ch 6.  Our test on Ch 6 will be on Friday, March 27th.  Next week we will cover Ch 7 and test it on Thursday, April 2nd.  After the break, we only have 3 chapters to go - and it's the last 5 weeks of high school for most of you.  So, enjoy your Spring Break and recharge your brains.

Countdown to Spring Break

Since we have a crazy schedule this week, due to Ga. High School Graduation Tests, we are going to skip ahead to Ch 8.  There is a lot in this chapter that you already know - so it will be the easiest to work on when we don't have our juniors in class.  The test on Ch 8 will be on Thursday, April 2nd.  When we get back from Spring Break, we will cover Ch 6, Ch 9, Ch 13 and parts of Ch 10 & Ch 11.  Have a great break and recharge your brains.  We've got lots of new and challenging material left!

Countdown to Spring Break

Since we are having Ga. High School Graduation Tests this week, we only meet on Monday and Friday.  On Monday 3/23/09 we will cover everything we need for the Friday 3/27/09 test on Ch 13.  Next week we will talk about what we need from Ch 14 and then . . . Spring Break!  We reached our goal of learning all new material before the break so that we can concentrate on AP review when we get back.  AP Statistics Test - Tuesday, May 5th - afternoon session.  Have a great Spring Break and recharge your brains!

Countdown to Spring Break

During this crazy schedule week of Ga. High School Graduation Tests, we don't have our entire class either of the 2 days we meet.  We will survive, though.  Hopefully the juniors will breeze through the Math and Language GHSGT after all of the SAT review we've been doing.  We'll mix in some performance tasks (fun ones!) along with our test taking skills next week and then . . . Spring Break! 

Final Countdown to Fall Semester '08 (only 1/2 way there for us!)

We will have our Chapter 7 Test during our Final Exam on Thursday, December 18, 2008.  When we get back in January 2009, we will start mixing review with new material.  The goal is to have all new material covered by Spring Break.

Final Countdown of Fall Semester '08

We will have our final exam on Wednesday, December 17, 2008.  This will cover mostly strategy and touch on specific question types that will appear on the SAT.  It will be part math and part reading/critical writing.  The students have practiced all types of questions throughout the sememster.  Half of their time was spent with Coach Martin and the other half with me, so a qualified subject area teacher worked with the students every class.  With the small class sizes, we were able to work one-on-one and in pairs most of the sememster.  This also allowed everyone to get to know each other and that made things more fun!

Final Countdown of Fall '08 Semester

We tested on Chapter 13 (right triangle trigonometry and the unit circle) yesterday, Monday December 8th.  Our end of course test is Wed. Dec. 10th and Thur. Dec. 11th.  This is not the traditional End-Of-Course test that counts 15% of a student's grade.  We, and all of the other Honors Algebra 2, Algebra 2, and Informal Algebra 2 classes are taking the Math II (which is part of the "new math" curriculum) to help norm the test for when it is officially put into place.  We are not studying for this test.  It will count as a quiz or test grade, whichever helps each student the most.  We will continue learning the last 2 chapters - Ch 10 Probability and Ch 11 Sequences and Series.  We will test these 2 chapters together (as we aren't covering everything in the chapters) on Tuesday, December 16, 2008.  Our final is on Friday, December 19, 2008.  The review packet for the final will be given out on Friday, December 12th.  We will work on that and the new chapters Monday through Wednesday of next week.

Final Countdown of Fall '08 Semester

We will be testing our last chapter - Chapter 9, on Friday, December 12, 2008.  Our final exam is on Thursday, December 18, 2008.  A review packet for the final exam will be given out on Monday, December 15th and we will work on that Monday through Wednesday of next week.  This class has gotten along better than any other Honors Statistics class I've taught.  It's been a great semester!

Inference - Ch 6

We are now getting into the fun part of Statistics.  The rest of the course will be more hands on and practical as we learn to use sample data to make inferences/draw conclusions about a population.  The topics we will cover in Ch. 6 are Estimating with Confidence, Tests of Significance and and Making Sense of Statistical Significance.  Our main focus over the next few days will be confidence intervals and cofidence levels.  If we say "We are 95% confident that the percent of adult women that feel they do not get enough "me time" is between 44 and 50%" what tools did we use to make this conclusion and what does it really mean?
